We're examining which of four major coffee chains, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Philz, Peet's are doing the most for social and climate responsibility. Coffee chains in general do a good job in promoting responsible behavior, but are they really? Are social and environmental practices a factor in where you choose to buy your coffee.

Here, on our TikTok video, https://vm.tiktok.com/ZPR7V8rFC/, we categorized these companies in five different segments. Customer and Employee wellbeing, Environmental Impact, Giving Back, and Stakeholder Empowerment.

1. Employee Wellbeing:
Starbucks offers great pay, benefits, and flexible hours but has irregular work hours.
Peet’s provides benefits and generally appreciates its employees, but early work hours can be a drawback.
Tim Hortons offers gym discounts but has mixed employee satisfaction.
Philz has limited information available on employee benefits.

2. Customer Wellbeing (Ingredients):
Starbucks supports hunger relief and child feeding programs.
Tim Hortons supports underserved youth and coffee farmers.
Peet’s encourages LGBTQ+ inclusion and supports local organizations.

3. Environmental Impact:
Starbucks is committed to sustainability but faces challenges in energy consumption and packaging waste.
Peet’s emphasizes sustainability and smaller-scale practices but has a water footprint.
Philz has less documented sustainability practices and uses single-use cups.
Tim Hortons practices sustainable coffee sourcing but faces issues with energy and transparency.

4. Giving Back:
Starbucks grants support various causes.
Tim Hortons donates proceeds to local charities and supports disadvantaged youth.
Peet’s achieved 100% responsibly sourced coffee and supports vulnerable farmers.

This condensed summary provides key points for participants to consider when choosing which one of them is most Authentically Green Coffee Chain in their opinion. If you think there are other Coffee chains that is better, your encouraged to add your opinion, and don't forget to add why!

Starbucks prides themselves as an ethical and sustainable global coffee chain. They have various initiatives such as Introducing a plant-based menu to reduce the impact of animal-based foods, investing in regenerative agriculture and reforestation and working with “responsible” stores around the world that are committed to reducing their amount of plastic use, energy consumption, and water waste. And in 2022 put forth their largest investment in wages and benefits. As well as benefits, they acknowledge the need for continuing training at all levels regarding human resource issues. There is much more to do given the size of the organization, customer base and influence on society.
